We’re thrilled to introduce you to Stratasan’s 2019 summer interns. To learn more about them, we asked Katherine and Thomas to each answer 10 questions. Check out their answers in this post and if you get a chance to meet them in person this summer, be sure to make them feel welcome.
Katherine Marcan (but she goes by Kat)
Where are you going to college and what are you studying?
I attend Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. I am pursuing a B.S. in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Biomedical Engineering and a concentration in Business Management.
Where are you from?
Redwood City, CA (just south of San Francisco). Though, I am able to call many places home ー looking forward to calling Nashville home, temporary or not.
How did you learn about your Stratasan internship?
I applied for a fellowship with OhanaHealth and was matched with Stratasan due to my experiences and career interests.
Why did you choose Stratasan for your internship?
I was attracted to the smaller startup vibe of Stratasan over other companies because I was able to invision more mobility and personal professional growth in an environment where I could receive significant individual attention in a new industry. After interviewing with Stephanie Johnson, I was energized, excited, and I knew that if I were extended an offer, I would absolutely accept.
What is your role at Stratasan during your internship? SRG Intern
What are your goals after graduation?
I plan to go into industry immediately after graduating. At the moment, I am interested in management consulting or project management positions. After some time there, I may consider returning to school to get my MBA.
Share three additional fun facts about yourself:
- I spent a semester abroad in Argentina, where I studied Chemical Engineering in fluent Spanish. After the semester, I spent an additional month traveling throughout South America.
- I enjoy weight-lifting and yoga because they are outlets in which I can push my physical limits on a daily basis. Whether it be in the gym or on my yoga mat, I allow myself to be completely selfish and feed or discipline my body as I wish.
- I modeled for a couple of years, mostly for athletic wear and a few lifestyle platforms. I also did a runway show.
What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
I enjoy going to music festivals over concerts because there I get to see multiple artists and groups in a single day and will experience completely different vibes with different groups all in one venue.
If you were a new addition to the crayon box, what color would you be and why?
If I were a color, I’d be sky blue because it gives me a free-flowing vibe, positive energy, feelings of peace, harmony, loyalty, care, and passion.
Hugh Thomas Harris
Where are you going to college and what are you studying?
I go to Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee to study Civil Engineering!
Where are you from? Springfield, Tennessee
How did you learn about your Stratasan internship?
My sister and I were both planning on living in Nashville during the Summer, so I decided to start applying to Internships and saw the Stratasan application on Indeed.com, and it really piqued my interest! It’s something I never imagined doing, but something I really enjoy!
Why did you choose Stratasan for your internship?
Stephanie Johnson was a huge reason I chose Stratasan. She was extremely kind to me and seemed excited to talk to me and hear about my future plans. After my interview, I immediately knew I wanted the job because she was so enthusiastic about what she did and the people that surrounded her. Now that I have met everyone here, I know I have made the correct decision!
What is your role at Stratasan during your internship? I’m working along with the SRG team!
What are your goals after graduation?
I want to join the Peace Corps or Engineers without Borders after graduation, and after my service, I plan on going back to school to get my masters in Civil Engineering.
Share three additional fun facts about yourself:
- I have played soccer my whole life, from Travel soccer, to High School, to now playing for Tennessee Tech!
- I was awarded Mr. Springfield High School my Senior year of High School.
- I am Hispanic-American, my mother being from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and my Dad being born in Tennessee, but I cannot speak any Spanish!
Who is one person (celebrity or not) who you hope to run into while you’re in Nashville? What will you ask them if you do?
It would be amazing to meet Marcus Mariota, just so I can tell him to stay healthy for a whole season.
What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
Walk the Moon will change your life, please whatever you do go to one of their concerts. Listening to Anna Sun live was amazing! Lil Jon on the beach in Panama City was pretty fun too!
If you were a new addition to the crayon box, what color would you be and why?
I know I would be some kind of green, I really care for the environment and just being environmentally conscious, so I would fit right into the greens.
